The Amazon Kindle is an electronic book reader made and sold by Amazon.com, the world's largest online retailer and one of the nation's biggest book sellers. Amazon is one of the iconic companies of the Internet era.

The company made the leap from selling others' products to selling its own when it introduced the Kindle, a reader with the capability of downloading books wirelessly, in 2007. A few other companies, notably Sony, had been selling electronic book readers, but Amazon's approach seemed to create a completely new experience, offering users the chance to buy virtually any book at any time anywhere.

The Kindle uses a display technology called electronic ink that is meant to mimic the experience of reading black letters on white paper. It is easier to read in bright lights and it uses less electricity than the sort of displays used on laptop computers and cellphones.

The animal rights group PETA wants Amazon.com to stop selling books about dogfighting and cockfighting, saying the books encourage an illegal and harmful activity the way a recently removed title promoted pedophilia.

PETA said it sent a letter Friday to Amazon.com President Jeffrey P. Bezos, asking him to to pull products from the site that promote animal cruelty in light of the online retailer's decision this week to stop selling an e-book that offered guidelines to pedophilia.

Barnes & Noble Nook Color eReader Review

In a press release today, Barnes and Noble announced that the Nook Color is now shipping. They claimed they would start shipping on Friday November 19th 2010. So far so good for the lauch, hopefully it wont be anything like last years disaster.

Orders placed are likely to start shipping on or near November 26th. Barnes and Noble thinks there's a likelyhood that they will run out before Christmas.

Kindle 3 eReader for Newspaper Subscriptions Review

The Kindle 3

What benefits does the Kindle 3 have in terms of newspaper subscriptions, like the New York Times? First the paper can get automatically sent to your Kindle without having to manually download it, if your settings have allowed this feature. The pages load fairly fast when navigating through sections and articles. Menu displays are clear anc help with navigation.

The main functions still apply to reading articles as reading ebooks. You can add notes, highlights, use the search function, access the dictionary, and ofcourse search Google. The downside is that there are no bookmarks, but you can however clip articles, which save as TXT files in your slippings folder.

Overall the public has good favor towards the Kindle 3 as a newspaper reader. This is going to save a lot of trees!

Why Buy A Kindle

Kindle targets book readers, people who wish to read for hours on end without suffering from eye strain caused by backlit displays. The Kindle is made exclusively for reading, period, it doesn´t attempt to be a tablet PC. Tablet PCs with their multifunctionality provide too many distractions when reading, that´s why Kindle has found a very nice niche market, which has millions of potential clients.

Furthermore, the Tablet PC market will become saturated in 2011. B&N have foolishly dropped the e-ink platform and ventured into the Tablet PC market, now they will compete with Apple, RIM, HP, Dell, etc. Good luck with that. And even though Amazon will not venture into the Tablet PC market, they benefit from the growth of that industry by allowing those users to read Kindle books. Brilliant!

Kindle DX Wifi e Ink Reader Review

It is true that the Amazon Kindle gets the bulk of media attention when it comes to eBook readers. Amazon does have great plans for their newer version Kindle DX. The device has a larger screen and is useful for students, teachers, and researchers. The drawback however is that it is too expensice for the buying public right now. It is likely losing market as it is priced similar to the Apple iPad. Nook 2 is also coming out soon, and therefor it is time for Amazon to get aggressive with their Kindle DX. Plus Amazon's Android tablet will not be introduced to the market this year.

We will see where Amazon moves with this, but the concensus amonst most is that it's price does not match the market where it can really excel and meet selling potential.

The movement towards portable digital information is wonderful. Now with e Ink technology, you can read for hours without the strain on the eyes one gets from reading off of computer screens that dont use reflective technology.

Right now there are three wireless E Ink ebook readers available that cost less than $150. Kindle 3, the Nook, and the Kobo Reader, all of which have WiFi.

The thing that fasinates me is really how fast these devices caught on, and now the competition between the providers of these devices are making them affordable for the public. It is fantastic!

Barnes and Nobles is launching a new color version of its Nook E-book Reader. This is going to be the first color E-book reader on the market. While it's going to e more expensive then the amazon Kindle it will run on the Google Android operating system and offer a number of interactive features for the reader. The Nookcolor will have a 7 inch display and pricing will start at $249.
